Milford Discovery Centre & Underwater Observatory

The beauty of Milford Sound continues underneath the water. A stop at the Underwater Observatory allows visitors to descend 10.4 metres below the surface of the fiord, to witness the vibrant marine life in their natural thriving environment.
The fully air-conditioned underwater viewing chamber provides a unique opportunity to view the real life ecosystem below the surface of the fiord – very different from the artificial environment of an aquarium. Rare black coral can be seen as well as anemones, sponges, sea stars, horse mussels and a multitude of fish.
Situated in Harrison Cove, our cruise will drop you at the Milford Discovery Centre on its return journey and you will be collected approx. 35 minutes to one hour later.
Please note that you must be able to descend 60 stairs to access the viewing chamber. The viewing chamber is not wheelchair accessible (although the centre itself is).
Entry to the Milford Discovery Centre & Underwater Observatory is an additional $36 for adults and $18 for children. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Mitre Peak Cruises counter prior to departure.
